How do I homeschool?
As soon as you decide to homeschool, the question arises: But how? This graphic shows the predicament of so many parents today who are fed up with their child’s education. It’s a no-brainer to pull our kids out of failing schools. The challenge is what to do next.
The reasons to pull your kids out of public school are mounting. It seems like every day we are hearing more bad news about our schools. With teachers, parents, administrators, school boards, and unions battling out the social and political issues of the day in classrooms, children’s lives are the unfortunate casualty.
Even great teachers with the best intentions are finding themselves stuck in a failing system crippling their efforts to do what they love. Everything from curriculum to textbooks, even children’s libraries are affected. And that’s not even mentioning the classic social problems students face like bullying, violence, drugs, sexual abuse, and now with a screen in every immature kid’s hand it’s like an open sewage drain ready to dump into your child’s mind. The rates of mental health issues among children today are staggering.
It’s no wonder so many parents are turning to homeschooling.
I admit we had reservations about it in the very early stages – we worried that we might mess up our kids, that we might not be qualified, or what the in-laws might think. But we are so glad we did. Sometimes we enjoy it more than the kids!
We have all learned so much. We’ve had the opportunity to explore the natural world around us from the vast ocean and its bustling tidepools down to the intricate detail of a butterfly wing. We’ve read grand histories and classic books together, we’ve read biographies of successful people and learned how they think. Our kids have learned to be independent self-starters and they’re confident in their ability to pursue their own interests. They’ve learned to interact with and hold a conversation with people of all ages. They’ve travelled the world together through the eyes of an adventurer, sang songs, read poetry, visited museums and other venues during the week when there’s no traffic or crowds. They’ve grappled with and discovered the beauty of math and experienced the marvels of science.
Most importantly, we’ve been able to have an intimate part in the moral and spiritual development of our children through materials and experiences that respect our family’s values. We want that for everyone who wants a better education for their kids. We’re passionate about helping moms and families make a rapid, easy transition to homeschooling.
We’ve found that the two biggest questions parents have after making the decision to homeschool are:
How do I homeschool?
And, Can I homeschool?
The internet is inundated with resources for this or that resource for homeschooling, but so much of it is fluff. Everyone with a year or so of homeschooling under their belt has learned enough to turn around and create a resource. Unfortunately, while it may look cute in your homeschooling selfie and even help you for the short-term, it’s not going to get you where you need to go.
Homeschooling is more than the curriculum or scheduling tool you choose. It’s more than which reading program or math manipulative you need. It’s a comprehensive shift into a whole new way of doing school. When we created our 21 Days of Homeschooling Course, that’s exactly what we had in mind.
We created the course we wished we would have had when we first started homeschooling.
Amy and I have over 20 years of homeschool experience between us. We’ve been instrumental in helping many others learn how to homeschool and we’ve put together a simple program that will answer the two most common questions people have when they get started. How do I homeschool, and Can I homeschool? We’re confident that this course will 100% answer those two questions for you. It’s going to tell you exactly what to do, day by day, so you don’t have to know anything except how to follow a few simple instructions. You’re going to open the course, follow the instructions, and see how simple and enjoyable homeschooling can be and think to yourself, “Oh my gosh, I can totally do this!”
